When it comes to choosing a cool drink, more and more young people in Wenzhou are choosing to buy sour plum soup at traditional Chinese medicine shops.
“In the hot summer, the traditional Chinese medicine version of sour plum soup is in short supply at Yanshengtang.” Feng Fangfang, deputy director of Yanshengtang Traditional Chinese Medicine shops in Lucheng district, said.
The sour plum soup drinks have a long history. It is recorded in the Wulin old story of the Song Dynasty that spiced plum water has sold in Lin An(the ancient name of Hangzhou), which is the earliest drink close to plum soup. Yanshengtang’s sour plum soup inherits the secret recipe of Yongjia Medical School and adds some ingredients.
On weekends, Yanshengtang hosts tasting activities, and more people tried and bought. Pharmacists offer people two options. People can choose to buy the ingredients to make their own sour plum soup or the pharmacists can boil up them and sell them in bags. But more young people choose to buy the ingredients and add sugar and ice. “Although the addition of ice in Chinese medicine is not allowed, the right amount of ice can indeed improve the taste, and more importantly, promote young people's interest in Chinese medicine and health.” Feng said.
Traditional Chinese medicine culture is undergoing creative transformation and innovative development, approaching young people and promoting its own transformation from tradition to modernity.

“I bought a lot of sour plum soup at Yanshengtang, they were very cheap, and I got rid of my dependence on sugary drinks sold in supermarkets.” Lin said, a young man who bought lots of sour plum soup.
But not all people are suitable for drinking sour plum soup and cannot drink large amounts in a short period of time. The doctor will analyze the patient's physical condition and recommend a suitable drink for them. People with weak stomachs and pregnant women are not allowed to consume sour plum soup.

More young people pay attention to traditional Chinese medicine, and the century-old Yanshengtang is also showing new vitality on the way to the preferences of young people.
